I just recently brought a newly developed app made by Braille Institute called Via. This app allows you to find other apps that are accessible with Voice Over. In order to find this app in the App Store, search Braille Institute,
and Via is the app that you want to purchase. I am having a problem with this app however. When I double tap anything, such as Braille Institute recommended apps, nothing happens. The app does not refresh with new apps or anything. It just stays at the main screen of the app. If any of you know anything, could you please help by posting what you did to make this work. Thanks.

Why pay money for an unreliable app that lets you know about accessible apps when you can read posts on some of these boards and visit websites dedicated to that sort of thing, like AppleVis.com, without paying a cent?

This app is free. Haha.

Here's my question. Even if this app is free, why can't you just tap on Safari and go on those websites, and not worry about an app that doesn't work properly? I mean, maybe it's a person's preference if they want the app, and that's fine, but why not browse the web to help you out with that? There are plenty of websites out there, as mentioned above.

Probably because not everybody knows about those websites. I think it's likely a matter of consolidating all of that information into a convenient llocation.

I agree with posts 2 and 4; there are various ways of finding out whether an app is accessible or not, and if its not, just delete it and don't worry about it.

Haley, I too have the VIA app, and I had the same problem with it the first time I launched it. I had to completely close it out from my app switcher, then relaunch it,and then it worked fine. However, I'm still not impressed with it. A lot of the categories do not yet have apps in them. Not all the apps they recommend are actually accessible with Voice-Over. I think it has some potential, but is definitely not there yet. As to the other posters, what's wrong with exploring a new app if you're not paying for it? Curiosity may not have paid off in this case, but it does sometimes, so nothing spent, nothing lost. I think Braille Institute's idea itself is good, but their app is not.

Sometimes, as nice as sites are for browsing it's more convenient to have everything in an app. Safari is nice, but I still prefer to browse the web on the good ole' PC. Having it all in an app would be nice. I agree that the app leaves a lot to be desired, but I have contact with the developer and know they're working on a release to fix some of the bugs.
It would be nice if Applevis could develop an app allowing access to all the content on their site, so that you could quickly look up the information. I can tell you that this has been looked into by a few of the staff, and, unfortunatley, there is no easy way to do this. It could be developed, but then we'd have to pay someone to do it, because none of us have the time to learn it, and we do not have the money to do such a thing. I have, however, put a link to the Applevis website on my home screen so that I can more quickly look up apps, and would suggest doing the same.
